Denon DRS-810 Tray Type 3 Head Cassette Deck – Superb Picture(s) and Description:

95071805367243240 Denon DRS 810 Tray Type 3 Head Cassette Deck Superb

I've got to say right at the top that this may well be one of the all time coolest cassette decks I've come by. Not such a surprise considering that Denon is one of those companies that always demonstrated a great design aesthetic with their top gear. Still, when I saw this, I actually thought it was a CD player with the usual left sided loading drawer. A closer look revealed the meters and telltale controls, but the styling still remains about as unique as anything I've seen lately. While the presentation is definitely special, it wouldn't be relevant without a fitting level of sonic performance. Again, no surprise with Denon, a company who's best cassette decks have often surpassed all but a few of the coveted Nakamichi models in terms of performance! When I dismantled the top cover to give the transport a proper cleaning and demagnetize, I was truly impressed by the solidness of construction (especially the transport). At a time when many companies were dumbing down their cassette deck circuitry to save money, this model shows Denon taking the high road with a discrete circuit approach that simply sounds better. The transport is a rock solid true closed loop dual capstan design which yields non existent levels of w&f along with complete speed stability. At the heart of things is a true three head design with very high quality contour cut sendust type heads. I should quickly mention that when I was checking this over, I noticed that the heads show virtually no wear. In fact, the whole transport looks like it has seen infrequent use. With a flip down panel to show the full feature set of this elegant deck, it is easy to see that Denon was interested in sparing little in the way of expense. Still, the ultimate test? Let's put in a tape and start recording. The short answer is that when switching between source and tape, it was often impossible to tell the difference. There are a lot of cassette decks that can reproduce the frequency extremes, but very few that can resolve the sense of space or dynamics. This Denon is indeed one of those few! I also ran a few prerecorded tapes and some made on my own Nakamichi, and it would seem that the Denon is pretty spot on with consistently fine playback. About the only things left to say about this rare deck are that it looks quite excellent with nothing more than maybe a tiny mark or two on the face plate and some stacking scuffs on the case. In a nutshell, it looks really sweet! Likewise, I've given this a comprehensive checkover and it is working perfectly in all respects. If you're looking for an amazing cassette deck, then look no further! Buyer pays actual shipping cost.
