I collect and repair vintage stereo equipment. I specialize in Nakamichi cassette decks, but I have also repaired units by Yamaha, harman/kardon, Marantz, Denon, Teac, Sony, Technics, Pioneer, Sansui, and others. This week I'm offering a real "workhorse" of a deck, with truly excellent sound that goes beyond its simple, subdued appearance. This KENWOOD KX-77CW DUAL CASSETTE DECK is from around 1988 or so. I have thoroughly checked and tested this deck after I serviced it. It works perfectly and sounds really great, with well defined bass, and a treble range that is nicely rounded off, never harsh, even with Dolby off. Every single rubber piece on this deck has been replaced with parts that work as good or better than the original parts. You are basically buying a NEW DECK, in terms of performance and reliability. In addition to sounding and looking EXCELLENT, you can rest assured that this deck works LIKE NEW. I HAVE DONE THE FOLLOWING: I have replaced both capstan belts with NEW belts identical to OEM specificationsI have replaced the counter beltNo need to replace the idler tire -- it is GEAR DRIVEN and will NEVER wear out I have lubricated the motor axlesI have lubricated the capstan bearingsI have calibrated playback speed, using only a 3kHz speed calibration tape. In the last photo, it is registering ZERO playback speed deviation, with wow/flutter peaking just over 0.1% WTD RMS, as measured by my Nakamichi T-100 Audio Analyzer. BOTH DECKS GAVE THE SAME RANGE OF MEASUREMENTS I have cleaned and demagnetized the heads, capstans, and pinch rollers I have tested and verified all functions; everything WORKS LIKE NEW Overall, this deck is in EXCELLENT condition. All lights and controls work perfectly. The front faceplate really does look LIKE NEW, and all lettering is like new, with NO faded or worn lettering anywhere. The cassette doors and windows are very bright and clear, and so is the window over the level meters. The top edge of the faceplate does have a few minor edge wear marks that are noticeable, but nothing horrible. The top of the deck has a couple of extremely minor marks, but they are only visible in strong light. The new owner of this deck will be VERY pleased with its condition.
