This is an excellent Nakamichi CR-5A 3 head cassette deck system. It is the same transport and electronics as the CR-7A with a few less features but the same exceptional quality. It has all the Nakamichi State of the Art features such as Discrete 3-head configuration, a Diffused Resonance transport with a Direct Drive capstan motor and a DC recording amplifier. The CR-5A has Dolby B and C noise reduction systems for the lowest possible noise and a Bias calibration control built in so that you can get perfect results with Metal, Chrome and Normal tapes. The original rated frequency is a full range 20-20,000Hz ±3dB. The other specs are similarly exceptional with Wow and Flutter of .027% WTD RMS and a Signal to Noise ratio of >72dB with Dolby C NR on. But specs don’t tell the whole story – more importantly this cassette deck makes tapes that are very close to the original. The sound quality in record and playback is far superior to all current cassette units. Anyone familiar with quality cassette decks knows that Nakamichi 3 head cassette decks are in the top rung of all cassette decks that have ever been manufactured. And the CR-5A is one of the best of all the Nakamichis. This unit is also easy to use with light-touch controls, easy to read meters and a master record level control for simple level setting. The unit functions flawlessly and makes wonderful tapes which sound almost as good as the original even on the best of systems. So here is your chance to own one of the best. Physically it is in excellent condition for a unit of its age. The top, sides and back are exceptionally clean. The front panel is overall excellent with clean legends and the display areas have only a light scratch or two of the kind you can get from dusting. The only real flaws on the front panel are two quite small dings on the two lower corner edges on the right side where it was apparently banged into something. These flaws are small enough you can’t even see them from a couple feet away. Functionally this deck makes great tapes sounding very close to the original and all the functions appear to be working properly. The winning bidder will pay for shipping and insurance from Zip code.
