This Model, in my opinion is equal to the BX-300 for performance and recording HISTORY: I picked this up from the son who bought it for his parents new in 1984 to go with their McIntosh system. His father passed way 3 years later and the mother never used it. She recently moved into a retirement home so the son is liquidating their Hi-Fi system So basically, this has about 3 years of light-to-moderate use on it. This is an amazingly Smooth Deck. Very quiet in operation, lightening fast Rewind/FForward speed with all of the controls needed for a truly Audiophile deck. Price new in 1984 - $850.00 USD. I connected this to Adcom GTP-500 Preamp, NAD 2600A Amp, Speakerlab 3 Speakers. The frequency response was startling - very wide, warm with no boom (a benefit of Dual Capstan Drive)- and with Dolby B & C + EQ, and Bias Adjust - you can tailor music any way you want it. The microprocessor controlled functions are Whisper smooth COSMETICS: This Unit is in Beautiful. The only markings are where the son scraped it when moving it - top middle edge has 1 1/2" area with 4-5 nicks on it. Besides a very few 'shading' scuffs on the top, it's near perfect (see pics) Comes with a copy of the Original Manual on CD MAINTENANCE: We removed the cover and inspected the belts, idler tire and switches. Belts & idler are still very pliable and tight (another indication of low use and room temperature storage) While apart we cleaned the FF/RWD wheels, idler tire, capstan rollers, posts and guides. Cleaned/Lubed shafts and switches. All controls and pivot points lubed and heads demagnetized.
